Xerox’s Solid Ink Keeps Cost-Per-Page Low
Not too long ago, it was hard to imagine that color laser printers would be affordable for consumers. Now, not too far in the future it seems as though Xerox’s solid ink printing technology will be in the price range that color laser printers are in now. At least one of its two new offerings, the ColorQube 8870 and the ColorQube 8570, is under $700 for a base model–and that might make it a good deal for small businesses since solid-ink printing means that the cost of expensive ink-cartridge consumables is very low

A Better Way to Produce Cooler/Shelf Tags
The cooler tag is the beverage industry’s dirty little secret. It is often inconsistent with the overall marketing image that has brought the consumer to the precipice of a buying decision at the point of sale. The challenge for most distributors is that producing these colorful shelf strips is typically very time consuming and difficult

Playing around with Sony’s Google TV product
I had a chance to play around with one of Sony’s new Google TV devices last week on Friday. Some photographs of stuff running in the TV’s task manager: Looks like a lot of services that mirror the state of the DVR– so that’s how they do that integration.

Has Facebook’s Social Groups feature “worked” for anyone?
(Since FastCompany’s commenting system is terrible and won’t let me 1) register to comment or 2) use my twitter or facebook to comment, here’s my comment to their article ) I think Facebook would say this is an outlier and these guys should just click the easy to see “unsubscribe” button and get out of the group if they don’t want to be a part of it.

Long Range WiFi Edges Nearer With FCC Decision
Wireless gadgets that weave signals between TV stations are a step closer. A new class of devices able to create Wi-Fi-like connections that span miles rather than meters just jumped significantly closer to market. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has made a crucial decision on the rules that will regulate such devices, which will use the “white spaces” between TV channels that were freed up by the analog switch off

Consumer Tech Price Volatility Continues With 3D Blu-ray Players Jumping As Advanced Processors Slide
Recent weeks have shown us that the “new normal” for the pricing of key retail electronics seems to include a high degree of volatility For example, last week our PriceSCAN 3D Blu-ray Player Index shot up a remarkable 9.44%, reversing about 80%^ of its slide since late August. To be sure, our index is still some 14% below its April inception level (see “ 3D Blu-ray’s Price Decline Seems To Jump Right Off The Screen! ”), but it appears retailers are now easing off their more aggressive Blu-ray summer discounts. Meanwhile, what a difference a few weeks have made in the pricing of Intel’s state of the art Core i7 processor.

Model Of The Week: Wet Orbital Workshop (Pre-Skylab 1968 proposal: 1/96)
When the Apollo Applications Project was initiated, one of the proposed projects was an orbital Workshop, made out of Apollo and Saturn materials. In early 1968 this was the proposed configuration: A “Wet Orbital Workshop”, meant to be fully fueled when launched on a spare Saturn 1B and when drained of fuel residues would be modified and used as a.. well, skylab.

Processing New Volatility In Long-Stable Intel i7 Core Pricing
Last week saw a remarkable spike in the price of a top-of-the-line Intel microprocessor. The pricing of one of Intel’s most sophisticated processors, the i7 Core , displayed a fairly high degree of price stability from early March until late July, with our PriceSCAN.com Intel Core i7 Processor Index remaining in a range of about 1% above or below its initial value. But from the third week of July until mid-August we witnessed a nearly 10% nose-dive in that our index, followed by a sharp 4.35% upward jump last week

Model Of The Week: My Steampunk Cube…
thought I’d better start including a scale cube in my posts, so here’s my latest creation: The Hexidecimal Ocular-comparitive measurement’o’tron : All in all, about six hours work, nothing to difficult just a bit tedious cutting out the cogs. This one I wanted to finish quickly rather than spend an extraordinary amount of time with neat and tidy. …need a good lie down.
