Getting Them 3-D, Blu-ray Blues

Blu-ray prices are plunging, and the market may be anticipating new 3D players and the obsolescence of the current technology. Blu-ray manufacturers, notably Sony and Panasonic, demonstrated competing 3D technologies last week at the IFA Berlin electronics show, just after the PriceSCAN.com Blu-ray Index took a pronounced dive, as noted in our recent press release

GPS Prices Continue Road Trip South

Automotive GPS prices seem to be charting a course downward. I took note of the deterioration in automotive GPS prices a couple of times earlier this year, following a New Year’s rally in this market which proved short-lived (“ GPS Can’t Navigate To Higher Prices ”, “ Automotive GPS Prices Driven Down ”).

Book Presents Tips for New Sellers of Art Photography

By Eileen Fritsch Compared to the number of books that have been published on digital photography and Photoshop, relatively few books have been written on inkjet photo printing. Even fewer guides have been published about how to mat, mount, and frame inkjet prints for display in an exhibition or gallery. That’s why I was intrigued by a

For LCD Sets, Lower Resolution Means Faster Price Drop

We’re seeing a resumption of the decline of LCD television prices, with the fall in 720p prices outstripping that of 1080p sets. I’ve noted recently that deterioration in LCD pricing has been continuing (see “ Sony’s LCD Premium Gets Discounted ”) and in a recent press release we highlighted particularly significant drops in the PriceSCAN 40–42 Inch LCD Television 720p and 1080p Indices .

Automotive GPS Prices Driven Down

We’ve recently seen further deterioration in GPS pricing, continuing a trend begun earlier in the year. At the end of January I commented on the fizzling of a brief New Year’s rally in GPS prices (“ GPS Can’t Navigate To Higher Prices ”), notably in the PriceSSCAN Automotive GPS with Voice Recognition Index . Now we’re seeing further deterioration in our Automotive GPS – Widescreen with Text to Speech Index

As an ink consumer, you should be concerned with the price of oil.

Just when we were starting to think that the price of crude oil was going to linger at “inexpensive” levels for some time, it has sustained a steady rise over the past week. While it may just be a brief spike, it may also be the inevitable consequence of what seems to be a recovering US economy.

Processor Price Drop Striking At Core Of Tech Recovery?

A recent resumption of a slide in the pricing of a key microprocessor could indicate that recovery in the market for technology goods is still some time off. As we note in today’s press release , PriceSCAN’s Intel Core 2 Quad Index dropped 3% last week, ending a period of relative stability that began in early February following a precipitous 13% fall in January. As a critical component of many personal computers , the Core 2 Quad’s price deterioration may reflect further weakening in the PC market.

“Unbreakable” Displays

I’ve been following the whole e-paper thing for a few years now. Part of it is my interest as a journalist, of course. Most of the initial applications I’ve seen it in development for are for newspapers and magazines and the like, moving the printed page to a much more customized, digital solution that never needs to be thrown away, that gets constantly updated throughout the day with new items based on a predetermined set of variables—previous interests, search histories, etc.
