Consumer Tech Price Volatility Continues With 3D Blu-ray Players Jumping As Advanced Processors Slide
Recent weeks have shown us that the “new normal” for the pricing of key retail electronics seems to include a high degree of volatility For example, last week our PriceSCAN 3D Blu-ray Player Index shot up a remarkable 9.44%, reversing about 80%^ of its slide since late August. To be sure, our index is still some 14% below its April inception level (see “ 3D Blu-ray’s Price Decline Seems To Jump Right Off The Screen! ”), but it appears retailers are now easing off their more aggressive Blu-ray summer discounts. Meanwhile, what a difference a few weeks have made in the pricing of Intel’s state of the art Core i7 processor.

Processing New Volatility In Long-Stable Intel i7 Core Pricing
Last week saw a remarkable spike in the price of a top-of-the-line Intel microprocessor. The pricing of one of Intel’s most sophisticated processors, the i7 Core , displayed a fairly high degree of price stability from early March until late July, with our PriceSCAN.com Intel Core i7 Processor Index remaining in a range of about 1% above or below its initial value. But from the third week of July until mid-August we witnessed a nearly 10% nose-dive in that our index, followed by a sharp 4.35% upward jump last week
