A Little Bit of This and That
Had a funny start to my day yesterday. While I was in a nice hot shower (we’re in a deep freeze in Ontario right now), Donnie threw a cup of cold water on me. Silly guy threw it over top of the shower curtain. All I could do was laugh. Spent Sunday afternoon surfing and found some tremendously inspiring things to share with you. Stampersuzz’s jaw dropping Silhouette Burst II Stampersuzz’s Silhouette Burst in Gold Cathy’s cute Thank you card Lunarlana’s Flicker Page Snow finally had her ultrasound and it showed nothing. That isn’t to say she doesn’t have a shunt–it just wasn’t visible. She also had a neurology consult which was negative as well. We spoke in great length with Dr.

Time to clear out your wardrobe
It’s that time of year when Spring Cleaning, Decluttering, Refocussing, Goal Setting, New Year Resolutions are all bandied about and we either react with smug delight that we are already on top of our minimalist lives, so there is no decluttering to be done ! Or wade deeper into the wardrobe berating ourselves that the teeny, tiny, little black dress we didn’t quite squeeze into over the Festive Period still calls to us and promises to transform us into the perfect model for designer chic by next party season! Clearing the wardrobe is a daunting task for many of us and it’s fascinating to investigate what is behind the inertia. The size issue I’ve already mentioned, is of course as a big one for many people.

ATC’s–anyone interested in a swap?
Two more ATC’s that I made for a swap a couple of months ago. I just mailed out swaps for this month and will post them once everyone has received theirs. Don’t want to spoil the element of surprise. These photos were downloaded from Etsy. After downloading from Twisted Papers , I learned it pays to buy high quality images. Is anyone interested in trading some ATC’s? Please let me know and I will arrange the putting together of a little swap group. Just use the words “sign me up” in your comment section. Please note that these ATC’s are not available

Have you checked the price for custom printing on your local printer lately? I wanted some handy trifold brochures that would make my small business presence in a more professional light and they give away to potential customers or potential customers in places where they could get. I thought I would give some out at an upcoming exhibit in my community on one of the tables

Ringing in the New Year with Emma Lulu
Stamping Bella has cute images that I enjoy colouring so much. Typically I watercolour or use Prismacolor coloured pencils. Copics have not won me over yet because I just don’t have the time to learn another technique to make my images pop. Lucky you if you are a lover of Copics–I hear they are so much quicker to use. Isn’t Emma Lulu cute?! I used this week’s Splitcoast Stampers Sketch and paired it with BasicGrey DP.

The only way to find out is to make a trip to the local store. That was probably my first visit to the shoe trade in this species about seven or eight years. I wanted to see how it will be busy, who was shopping there and how much it has changed since my last visit. As I approached the window in front of the store, it was soon clear that things hadn’t changed very much at all.

The basic wardrobe of the 18th- and 19th-century peasants consisted of a chemise, a skirt and an apron for women; trousers, a belt or sash, and a T-shaped shirt for men. Cloaks and jackets were worn by both men and women. As these simple pieces began to evolve, geographic differences became more evident and clothing would delineate an affiliation to a group and/or village

How does a Laser Printer work?
A Drum Unit is generally a cylindrical shaped roller inside of a Laser printer that rotates with a “negative or positive” charge. The Laser in the printer essentially draws the letters to be printed onto the Drum roller as an electrostatic image. Once the image has been imprinted onto the Drum with this static charge, the Drum unit is coated with a fine black powder called “toner”.

Printer generates an error message or warning and refuses the cartridge installation
In this case you may need to cycle the printer by following these steps: 1- Turn off the printer, with the cartridge installed.

Horizontal/Vertical white lines appear in printout – printout is faint & blurry
In this case the cartridge nozzles may be slightly clogged. Run the print head cleaning utility 3-4 times before printing again. If after running the utility the situation is unchanged, the cartridge is most likely defective.

Printer says new ink cartridge is “empty”
It is virtually impossible for you to receive an empty cartridge!! It is possible however that your cartridge is not properly seated – “Drop” the cartridge into the holder and slightly wiggle the cartridge back and forth to ensure correct seating. Then lock the cartridge in place in its print tray. Please understand that your printer does not “READ” the ink level from the cartridge itself.

Four Phases of the Customer Support Experience
When large companies put technical support content online, the effort frequently comes with a variety of pitfalls. A large company may have dozens or hundreds of products, and each of those products may have dozens or hundreds of support documents, leading to many tens of thousands of support documents. This can make it exceedingly difficult to find the right help content for any given product and problem

Why Content Management is Not the Same As Wikis
In the technical support documentation space I’ve been recommending wikis as a way to enhance collaboration on support documentation as an alternative model to the traditional approach of having a small cadre of technical writers and experts using a traditional content management tool to publish documents to the way.

Creating Great Products In an Uncertain World according to Peter Merholz of Adaptive Path (WebVisions 2009)
I’m a fan of Adaptive Path and their work, so I was excited to see this talk by Peter, who comes from Adaptive Path. Key insights: Creating a “north star” is all important from a design perspective, because it is key that everyone can understand if their baby steps take them in the right direction or not. It’s easier to move the north star as circumstances change if it has just the necessary amount of detail

How to raise online reputation: Notes from Tara Hunt’s presentation on Making Whuffie (WebVisions 2009)
This was one of the better presentations at WebVisions. I felt like it had some pretty concrete actions to take. Best takeaway: By putting myself out there for feedback on my company, the many benefits include gaining more followers, learning what my customers want, being able to engage in a discussion.
