Family Guy’s “Something Something Something Dark Side” trailer
Everyone agrees that the first Family Guy Star Wars parody, Blue Harvest , was TV at its finest, right? It was such a big hit that Fox is going to release the second one on DVD on December 22 before airing it on TV with the hope fans will actually spend money and buy the damn thing. If the trailer is any indication of the episode’s awesomeness, some people might actually do just that

Star Wars rap: OK, roll up the Internet, we’re done here
ALL NEW! Star Wars Gangsta Rap: Chronicles Atom.com: Funny Videos | Atom Originals | Star Wars Gangsta Rap We present to you the Star Wars Rap , a rap about the film Star Wars . This is the apex of our culture and will be remember as the high water mark for Western thought, a sort of Jungian tipping point. I want to be able to tell my children when this happened – if we survive the coming Dark Ages that this must inevitably produce

Google puts free Wi-Fi in 47 airports for the holidays (plus they’re matching charitable donations)
Well, the spirit of giving arrived a little early this year! For my birthday last month, Google announced it was partnering to offer free Wi-Fi on all Virgin America flights until January 15th. Great, thanks Google, now I have to check the feeds even while flying at 500MPH. But I guess that wasn’t enough kindness to satisfy the Goog.

First review of New Super Mario Bros. Wii gives the game a 9.2 (and guess from who that number’s from!)
Super Mario Bros. Wii doesn’t come out here in North America for another five days, but, for whatever reason, it comes out in Australia in two days ! That explains why you can find the world’s first review (nearest I can tell) on IGN Australia . The Web site gave the game a 9.2 (I swear, these decimal point reviews are 100 percent absurd), but I think it’s safe to conclude that the game is, indeed, fun, which is really all you can ask for

Thank you, Columbus, Ohio!
If you weren’t at the Surly Girl Saloon last night for the Columbus CrunchGear meetup, then you were somewhere else! You missed John sporting a new pair of Onion Goggles . You missed a nerd-a-thon comparing the Droid, HD2, iPhone, Dream, and whatever other handhelds folks could dig out of their pockets. And you missed an opportunity to put your grubby paws on not only the TwitterPeek but also the Nokia Booklet ! When the TwitterPeek’s battery ran out, John became very sad: Nerd-a-thon! That guy was doing live speed tests of the phones in front of him

Things to do today that have nothing to do with Modern Warfare 2
I know that there’s a certain of percentage of people who want nothing to do with Modern Warfare 2 . It’s all meatheads and explosions, right? I’m inclined to agree to a degree—Opie and Anthony were talking about the game this morning, and a real life member of the military called in and complained, “If you want to play war, why not join the Army?”—but no matter

Amazon finally releases the Kindle for PC app (but it’s still in beta)
Huzzah! PC users can finally include their computers within the each of Amazon’s syncing capabilities with the Kindle for PC app. The just released beta finally gives PC users a viable ebook reading option on a program that doesn’t look like it was designed for Windows 95. Although the majority of users will probably be those that already own a Kindle and just want to turn a few pages while at work, still relying on a Kindle for most of the reading

Six hot ‘n fresh DisplayPorts on one video card, coming right up
When I first saw Eyefinity demoed, I thought “that’s pretty awesome, but aren’t you going to have to pull some shenanigans to get that many monitors hooked up? I mean, daisy-chaining monitors isn’t science of the rockets or anything, but it does mean certain restrictions need to be observed, and certain accessories bought. But what if your graphics card had as many outputs as you had monitors

Trillions: a short film on the future of computing
This is an interesting little futurist tease of a movie by MAYA that’s “a fast paced preview of a larger effort — I’m guessing where they fill in the gap at the end. The idea is that computing right now is at one of those thresholds where we can’t quite grasp the idea of the “next generation.” Just as computing in the 60s and 70s was about mass calculation and interpretation of external data and experts foresaw little of what we have now, the future of computing involves such a low level of fundamental integration and a high number of nodes that it’s practically impossible for us to see how it will work

Netgear Says New Switches Improve Networks
Netgear’s new ProSafe Plus Switch line is designed to leap-frog the company’s own Smart Switches, in the same way Smart Switches leap-frogged standard unmanaged switches by integrating port-based quality of service (Qos) for important traffic like voice and video. In addition to QoS, these switches are going green. They’ll use less power if the Ethernet cables plugged into them are shorter (the longer the cable, the more power needed) and will automatically power down the port if no signal is present.

MojaMix, a web service that lets you make your own cereal and granola
Back in the olden days, long before the advent of electric light, our forefathers dreamt of a better place. They dreamt of running hot and cold water in their wash rooms, wireless telegraphy, and the rise of the horseless carriage. They dreamt of threshing machines that could tie down an acre of millet an hour and helioplanes that could transport humans from one place to another in comfort and style

GameStop given permission to break Modern Warfare 2 street date (Update: Actually, no permission has been given at all. Fancy that.)
You most certainly already know this by now, but Modern Warfare 2 is probably already available at your local GameStop . The release date (tomorrow, actually) was broken last week by various so-called mom-and-pop video game stores, so Activision went ahead and started letting select GameStops sell the game

SNEGENES “portable” console plays SNES, Genesis, and NES games
When someone says “portable,” what do you think? I think “fits in a bag or pocket,” but some people would go the “portable” generator route and say “is not physically fixed in position.” That seems to be the “portable” that the creators of the SNEGENES had in mind when they said their device was so. Now, I don’t want to detract from the obvious glory of what has been created here: a (technically) handheld device that will play cartridges from NES, SNES, and Genesis — but really, that thing is about as portable as my bathtub

Don’t forget to see Fedor knock out Rogers, both of EA Sports MMA, tonight
Consider this a friendly reminder. Tonight at 9pm ET on CBS (in the U.S.; I’m sure there will be plenty of streams, though, which you can find on your own) two of the big stars from EA’s upcoming EA Sports MMA video game will hit each other very hard. Fedor Emelianenko , the big Russian guy who could well be the best MMA fighter of all time (or is that Sakuraba ?), will fight Brett Rogers, of whom I know nothing

Bad news, good news: Eee Keyboard delayed, but it’s getting the old touchscreen back
I amaze myself sometimes. You see, I have so much power as a writer on this invincible and influential blog that sometimes I can change an entire industry with but a word. Case in point: apparently my recent post on Eee’s decision to change the touchscreen to resistive on their Eee Keyboard was so crushing that they’ve altered their entire business plan and delayed the device to accommodate it.

You are not worthy of the 18-button OpenOfficeMouse (and it has an analog stick)
You may recall our incredulity when SteelSeries announced their 15-button MMO Mouse . Not one to be passed by, Razer shortly thereafter came out with the 17-button Naga , which we’ll be reviewing soon. But unknown to them, a small team was working in obscurity to create an 18 -button mouse… with an analog stick for your thumb, to boot.
