Oracle, Sun Merger A Win for Small Biz

Although eclipsed by Apple’s iPad announcement, Oracle announced yesterday its intentions with Sun products, now that the acquisition of Sun Microsystems is complete. The announcement, which was actually a planned webcast, reassured those worried over the fate of two open-source Sun products for small business: the database software, MySQL and the productivity suite, OpenOffice.org . Good Technology Acquires CloudSync

Good Technology, the makers of the popular Good for Enterprise mobile e-mail synchronization system, have acquired CloudSync , a mobile device management company. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Good aims to use CloudSync’s technology to provide remote device management for laptops, tablets, handhelds, and smartphones through a cloud-based service that doesn’t require IT to deploy or manage additional hardware or software.

Verizon Adds VeriSign Mobile Identity Protection

Verizon has unveiled VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Access for Mobile, a VeriSign app that adds cloud-based authentication credentials to protect corporate data. VIP Access for Mobile is a free app that displays a security code on a cell phone screen, which gives users a second level of authentication for logging into a VPN or corporate network, in addition to typical username and password combinations. The security code acts as a unique, one-time password that changes automatically every 30 seconds, similar to RSA’s securID cards.
