Lightroom 3 Printing Improvements
With Lightroom 3 Beta having just been released, the first thing that most people will do – as I did – is to look and see if the features that you’ve always wanted in the program have been added. One of the areas that Lightroom 2 fell a little short on in my book was the Print module. I wanted to be able to print with a colored background without having to import a background to use as a Identity Plate to achieve the effect and I wanted to be able to assemble a single printed sheet incorporating multiple images but I didn’t want them to have to always be the same size.

The Value of Photography Events: Finding the Unexpected
By Wayne Cosshall As I write this, I am in the middle of the month-long Ballarat International Foto Biennale (BFB) . It got me thinking about all the various ways in which we can benefit from participating in events such as this. There is one annual photo event I regularly attend, the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show here in Australia, as well as the Ballarat International Foto Biennale (BFB) every second year.

Portfolios: Print? Digital? or Both?
By Jon Canfield Traditionally, a photographer’s portfolio has been one of the most important assets for presenting work to galleries and potential clients. With so much work being done digitally these days, is it really necessary to maintain a print portfolio? Or can you get the same impact from a digital one

Guest Blogger Tim Grey: Ink in Bright Areas of Print
Thanks to Tim Grey, best selling author and writer of the Digital Darkroom Quarterly. Today’s Question: What is the best way to ensure “some” ink will always make it to the paper when printing? Often times, I see highlight areas (specular highlights or maybe even very purposeful bright/white areas) that do not seem to get any ink on the paper and therefore produce a print that does not look its best, especially when viewed from a direction other than straight ahead

By Jon Canfield The latest model printers, like the HP DesignJet Z3200 and the Photosmart Pro B9180 , are capable of creating prints that last over 200 years thanks to the formulation of pigment inks and the coatings on the papers we print to. Obviously, that’s a long time, and while the print might be viable for that period, improper care and handling will lead to an early death. One problem with inkjet prints is the tendency to scratch easily.

Tips for Better Landscape Photography, Part Two
By David Saffir In my first post on shooting landscape photography last month, I shared a few tips for increasing your odds of going home with tack-sharp images. Lifelong Learning in Photography
By Wayne Cosshall Photography is one of those subjects that no matter how long you have been doing it, there is always something new to learn. While many amateurs get concerned about how much there is to know and feel inadequate, a better approach is to embrace the fact that you can learn something new every single day and enjoy it.
