Facebook’s Latest Privacy Breach is Decades Old

A quirk of the Web has caught out the world’s largest social network. The Wall Street Journal reported this weekend that some Facebook applications–such as games–share the unique number assigned to each of the social network’s half-a-billion members with third-party companies including advertising firms.

Playing around with Sony’s Google TV product

I had a chance to play around with one of Sony’s new Google TV devices last week on Friday. Some photographs of stuff running in the TV’s task manager: Looks like a lot of services that mirror the state of the DVR– so that’s how they do that integration.

Windows Phone 7: So good has to fail!

Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 last week and the tech media response was, perhaps, the best example to date of how biased some tech news outlets are regarding certain brands. Almost everyone who has been hands-on with a Windows Phone 7 device has been impressed to a lesser or greater degree.  However, many established technology writers seemed to report the same conflicting story: That Windows Phone 7 looked great, offered something genuinely different from what’s currently available BUT that it would fail. It’s also important and relevant to point out that the exact same type of biased reporting was aimed at Apple when it launched the iPad.

Buy Desktops, Not Laptops!

Consider these bits of information: A laptop will cost a third to a half more than a comparable desktop.  The same power in an $800 desktop computer will require $1200 in laptop price.  This is because it costs a lot to miniaturize all the parts.  Smaller hard drive, smaller motherboard, smaller overall design.  Smaller has always meant more expensive in the computer world. As well, a laptop, due to its compact design, has less air flow than a desktop.  Less air flow equals hotter components.  Hotter components equals shorter life span.  I would consider myself lucky to have a laptop made today, that is still running in five to seven years
